Harlequins RL face Championship 1 side Gateshead Thunder tonight in the 4th Round of the Carnegie Challenge Cup.
It's been a tough start to the Co-Operative Championship 1 season for Gateshead Thunder. They have only picked up 2 points from the opening 7 fixtures but they are improving all the time. Although they have been on the receiving end of some big defeats they have shown that they are capable of competing with some of the best teams in the division.
Thunder are still rebuilding after a tough couple of years, but they are determined to make rugby league and Gateshead Thunder a success.
Tonight's game is the first between the two clubs in their current identities. Their only previous meeting in the North East was during Super League IV, a 28-22 away win for London Broncos over the original Gateshead Thunder on 15 August, 1999.
Tony Rea included youngsters Harry Little, 19, and Joel Wicks, 18, for their Super League debuts in the game against Wakefield on Sunday, as well as giving a start to the on-loan Jacob Fairbank. Little capped off an excellent performance earning the players' player award from his team mates.
