To launch the coaching programme, Broncos London-born first-team stars Kieran Dixon and Olsi Krasniqi will be on hand at the Giants training session on Wednesday 25th April to put the teams through their paces.
Active Surrey, the Surrey county sports partnership, have allocated funding through their 'Sportivate' programme to support the project. As part of the programme Broncos' coaches and players will work with the Guildford Giants men's and ladies' teams from the start of their pre-season training at Surrey Sports Park next Wednesday, through to mid-June.
After two months under the guidance of Broncos coaching staff, on June 9th the Giants will travel up to the Stoop to play a series of home fixtures around the Broncos v Widnes Vikings home fixture. The men's team will play at Richmond College in the morning before the women take on West London Sharks ladies on the main field at the Stoop as the curtain raiser to the Super League fixture.
The Giants U7s, U9s and U11s will also play pre-match on the club training fields then at half-time in the Super League game will play a showcase game on the main field at the Stoop to round off a Giant day out for the Surrey club. Club secretary Rich Ingle is keen to see the new ladies team in action.
He commented: "The Minis' teams came to the Stoop last season but for the whole club to travel up to a Super League game and be part of the matchday experience is a big boost for the club, especially with the new ladies' team playing their first ever game in a professional sports stadium. We hope this will bring a few new faces into the club and with Broncos coaches working with the teams in pre-season we think we'll be able to get it right on the field as well."
Andy Fairhurst, Development Manager at the Broncos Foundation is enthusiastic about the contribution the funding has made. He said: "We applied for funding for several projects through Active Surrey's 'Sportivate' programme, and so far it has facilitated the start of rugby league in several colleges in the county and will fund our work with the Giants adult men's and ladies' teams.
"The Giants ladies team is a new venture for this season and after having only the West London Sharks team in the South for so many years, the new teams springing up this year at Guildford and Medway is great news for the ladies' game in the region."
Training for both men and women is at Surrey Sports Park, Guildford on the 4G all-weather floodlit pitch from 8pm-9pm on Wednesday evenings. For more details on how to get involved contact Broncos Development Manager Andy Fairhurst on Andrew.Fairhurst@LondonBroncosRL.com
