MATCH PREVIEW: Warrington Wolves vs London Broncos

Jake Watson • 22 March 2024

London Broncos move into the Challenge Cup for the first time this season as Super League clubs enter at the 6th Round of the competition.

Warrington Wolves were the same opponents in the previous game, however that was a Super League game and took place at The Cherry Red Records Stadium - where it was Sam Burgess’ side who ran out comfortable winners, winning 58-4.

Broncos are still searching for that first win of the season, meanwhile Warrington have started the season very strongly and currently sit top of Super League so will go into this game as favourites.

It is expected both sides will make changes with both coaches taking the cup competition as an opportunity to try different personnel and tactics.

London Broncos Director of Rugby & Performance Mike Eccles said he is looking forward to the game;

“An opportunity to do something a little different to be honest. We have a thin squad and we have a lot of injuries and the loan players will go back to their clubs as well so it’s an opportunity to look at a couple of different things with the team this week.

“It’s exciting, there will be a couple of new faces in there as well which is exciting. I won’t give too much away just yet but you’ll see at 5.30pm on Saturday what I mean by that.

“I want the players to be excited by the cup, it’s an opportunity for the players to go out there and enjoy it. We’ve been under a little bit of pressure lately, but we will respond.”

And London Broncos loose forward Dean Parata said the nature of the opponents being the same as last weekend helps both sides;

“You know who you are playing, it's fresh! It will be easier to prepare, knowing what to prepare for and what they bring - their key players etc but it will be on both sides as well.”

The 23-year-old was a stand out performer despite perhaps being a surprise inclusion in the starting 13.
