Preview: Huddersfield Giants vs London Broncos, Pre-season, 28/1/24

James Booth • 25 January 2024

For the second of three pre-season games before the start of the 2024 Super League season, the Broncos journey up to the John Smith’s stadium to take on Huddersfield Giants.

After a 14-14 draw last weekend away at Castleford, this weekends’ matchup provides another fantastic opportunity for the Broncos to prepare for the season to come against another strong Super League opposition side.

Last weekend’s matchup against Castleford was the first time that the Broncos have taken the field since their historic Championship Grand final victory vs Toulouse and travelling London fans saw the first glimpses of new signings Josh Rourke, Gideon Boafo, Hakim Miloudi (try scorer), James Meadows, Robbie Storey (try scorer) Jack Hughes & trialist Lee Kershaw in a Broncos shirt. Ahead of this weekend’s preseason fixture we caught up with one of our new signings and a try scorer in last weekend’s match, Hakim Miloudi, who says “Everything so far has been perfect, all the boys have made me feel very welcome so I’m so happy to be here.

“I’m so excited for the boys and for myself to be back in Super League, it is my dream so I can’t wait to get going forward with that… I can’t wait to be back playing every weekend.

“After the Castleford game I think that we did really well and now we go into Huddersfield... I think it will be a little bit stronger but if we are going to keep going like that (last weekend) we are going be learning quite a bit”.

Huddersfield Giants finished 9th in the Super League in 2023, with a record of 11 wins and 16 defeats.

Huddersfield, like the Broncos, have had one other pre-season game so far in 2024 where they beat Championship side Dewsbury Rams 36-0.

The Broncos haven’t picked up a win in the last 18 games which they have played against Huddersfield, with the Giant’s most recent win coming in the form of a 24-19 victory on the 22nd of April 2019. Therefore, this matchup will certainly be a great test for the Broncos and should be incredibly useful in ensuring that we are well prepared for the Super League season coming up.
