London Broncos & Hull KR; How has played for both?

George Griffin

Perhaps best known for his time with Salford Red Devils and his current side Castleford Tigers, George Griffin played for both Hull KR & London Broncos at the earlier parts of his career. Now 32 and still plying his trade in Super League at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle, Griffin was born in Oxford but began his career in East Hull with Hull KR in 2012. After just a season Griffin was on the move to London with the Broncos, however after a season which ended in relegation from Super League, Griffin would be on the move again. He would spend 4 years with Salford Red Devils before moving to Castleford Tigers in 2020, where he remains.

Rhys Kennedy

A current Bronco, Rhys spent one season in Hull before making the move to the capital at the start of the season. Kennedy, born in New South Wales where he would make his professional and NRL debut for South Sydney Rabbitohs in 2019. There were just a couple of appearances before he would be on the move to Brisbane Broncos going on to play nearly 50 times in three seasons. On the lookout for a

Rhys Lovegrove

“Lovey” is a man known to both clubs incredibly well, having now played for and coached at both clubs. Born in Sydney but Lovegrove made his name in the game in England with Hull KR after he joined from St George Illawarra Dragons. He would spend 7 years in Hull, playing 159 times before moving on in 2015 and London being the next destination. It would be just one season in London before a brief spell at Bradford saw the end of Rhys’s playing career.

Post retirement he has since moved into coaching and enjoyed a very successful stint in charge of Keighley Cougars before he moved on to assist Mike Eccles during the 2023 promotion winning season. At the start of 2024 Lovegrove moved back to Hull KR to take up a role with the development sides, a position which he still holds

Kieran Dixon

London born and a product of the Broncos academy, Dixon had two spells with the club and was incredibly prolific; ranking in clubs all time; tries, points and goals. Following relegation for the Broncos in 2014 Dixon would move to Hull KR where he would enjoy another point ladened time, notching 29 tries in just 39 games with 148 points. Dixon then returned to London in 2017 where he enjoyed another stellar 3 years continuing to build on the impressive numbers from his first spell at the club. Since leaving London in 2020 Dixon has had somewhat of a nomadic period turning out for York, Widnes, Leigh, Rochdale and now for Oldham.

Omari Caro

Another product of the London Broncos academy, Omari was a lightning quick prolific scorer throughout his career. It was just one year in the London Broncos first team in 2012 before Omari would make that move to Hull KR where he scored an impressive 20 tries in just 26 games. Caro would go on to have further impressive spells at Bradford Bulls and London Skolars.

Josh Drinkwater

Still playing in Super League but another player to have featured for both London and KR. Drinkwater is an Australian who began his professional career with St George Illawarra Dragons before moving to the capital in 2014. Drinkwater would spend just a year in London which is a theme throughout his career. Following London in 2014, Drinkwater would spend single seasons at; Wests Tigers, Leigh Leopards, Catalans Dragons & Hull KR. He returned to France and Catalans for 2 seasons in 2020 and joined Warrington Wolves in 2023 where he is still currently playing.

Other players to have played for both include; Matt Cook, Liam Colbon, Ben Fisher, James Greenwood, Tommy Lee, David Mills, Thomas Minns, Danny Ward, Scott Wheeldon, Reiss Butterworth

Broncos Launch “Fan Hub” Project! Big plans to relaunch London Broncos for the 2026 Rugby League season are already underway and the first project is to launch and create new supporter “hubs” around London and the South of England. The main objectives of this initiative is for the Broncos to engage more closely with its fans, bring all fans, players, volunteers, clubs and teams closer together, raise interest, profile and momentum and attract newcomers from all sectors of society. Gary Hetherington said; “We all want the game to be “less of a secret” to those in this part of the country and if we don’t do it, it won’t get done! “Rugby League has a proud record for its connectivity and support for its communities, the players and staff are approachable and committed and we the fans can do more.” Can you help? Could you help to create a “hub” in your village, school, club, town, community? It could be at a pub, club or wherever you think appropriate? Are you interested in joining a steering group to oversee the project and its development?
