MATCH PREVIEW: Bradford Bulls vs London Broncos

London Broncos kick off a brand new season with an away trip to Bradford Bulls.

London Broncos Director of Rugby & Performance Mike Eccles has urged supporters to stick with the team as it looks to build through the season. In 2024 the team was dogged by a number of significant injuries to key players which thankfully have been avoided this time around.

Pre-season has seen a number of new players joining the team however the ongoing transition with the club has meant that pre-season friendlies have been few and far between. Just the one match prior to this one was a Challenge Cup tie against Goole Vikings which was used as an opportunity to take a closer look at a number of trialists. Since then 3 of those 8 have signed permanent deals.

London Broncos prop Lewis Bienek enjoyed a really strong second half to the Super League season in 2024 demonstrating how impactful he can be in games with his powerful running game.

The 26-year-old missed the first 10 games of last season after picking up a serious ankle injury in a pre-season game and he is excited to be fit for the start this time around;

“It’s massive. Those big injuries are always a setback and you’re just watching from the sidelines which is so frustrating but this time around to be ready for the startline with the rest of the boys is exciting.

“It’s hard to say that I’m a senior player but I suppose I am so it’s now that core group that has been here the last few years to step up.

“We’ve been a good few years now and we know what Mike wants and where he wants to push things so we can show the new players that have come in how to do things.”

Broncos were unable to sign off the home campaign with a win over Bradford Bulls but put in a positive display leading at half-time and scoring 24 points against the promotion hopefuls. The 23-year-old was a stand out performer despite perhaps being a surprise inclusion in the starting 13. The centre has been in and around the club for a number of years after being spotted playing Origin whilst at junior club Elmbridge Eagles in 2018.
